New England Fertilizer Company (NEFCO) is a recognized leader in providing heat drying and granulation as a proven biosolids management option. The biosolids drying and granulation technology offered by NEFCO has been commercially available and in use since 1976. NEFCO permitted, developed, and now operates one of the world’s premier dewatering, drying, and granulation facilities. This facility, located in Quincy, Massachusetts, services the city of Boston and forty-three surrounding communities. NEFCO's biosolids drying process was chosen from a pool of twenty-three proposers to provide this beneficial use technique for ceasing the fifty-year practice of discharging biosolids into Boston Harbor. Since January of 1992, over 60,000 tons of biosolids that would otherwise have been discharged to the Harbor have been processed and used and/or disposed by virtue of NEFCO’s efforts.

New England Fertilizer Company has assembled various project teams with unparalleled experience in biosolids drying design, permitting and operations, including product marketing. Whenever possible, NEFCO will utilize experienced local design engineering firms and construction general contractors. Primary project responsibility will, of course, rest with NEFCO, which is a partnership of the O’Connell Development Group Inc. of Holyoke, Massachusetts and Dunn Associates of Boston, Massachusetts. O’Connell Development Group Inc. is a subsidiary of The O’Connell Companies, Incorporated. A sister subsidiary is Daniel O’Connell’s Sons, Inc., a Massachusetts construction and general contracting firm that has been in business for 118 years. Dunn Associates is a sole proprietorship involved primarily in commercial real estate development in and around metropolitan Boston.
