The Palm Beach County Solid Waste Authority (SWA) awarded NEFCO a contract to design, build, and operate a biosolids processing facility to service seven separate communities in one of the more affluent areas of the country. The facility went into operation in August of 2009 and today is capable of processing 600 wet tons of dewatered biosolids per day. The West Palm Beach plant serves as a model of corporate citizenship and environmental sustainability.
A fully enclosed, odor-controlled, and automated receiving and storage area adjacent to the processing area reflects the architectural aesthetics of the community. Environmentally, the most distinguishing feature of this project is its innovative design for landfill gas to provide all of the fuel necessary to run the biosolids processing system.
By replacing the need for natural gas at this facility, fossil fuel consumption and the overall carbon footprint is reduced dramatically, demonstrating dedication to sustainability by SWA and NEFCO.
