The City of Cumberland’s new sludge disposal facility is operational following completion of construction in August 2010. NEFCO designed, managed construction, and will operate and maintain the City-owned facility under a long-term contract with the City of Cumberland. NEFCO was chosen by the City as the best value for the services provided following a comprehensive RFP process.
This project enables Cumberland to discontinue the prior practice of disposing of sludge through a land application program that was becoming increasingly cost prohibitive due to the ever-increasing amount of federal/state regulations. The product will be used beneficially as a renewable ingredient in natural fertilizer blends.
A portion of the project was funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment / Stimulus Grant Act.
