1) Air handling and emission controls for our system are fully integrated. Burning fuel in air provides the heat necessary to evaporate moisture from the biosolids mix. The 2) furnace creates a very hot mix of combustion products that is tempered, or cooled, by recycling dehumidified exhaust gas. The exhaust gasses are treated first in a 3) scrubber/condenser to remove the small amounts of remaining solids and water vapor. The greater part of this gas is recycled to the inlet of the dryer as described above. The excess gas, e.g. gas that cannot be circulated, is drawn through a 4) Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO) to destroy odor-causing vapors. The air handling and odor control system is a key feature of NEFCO’s systems. The combination of wet scrubbing, condensing, exhaust circulation, and thermal oxidation provides excellent control of odors, low emissions, and economical operation. In addition, NEFCO typically incorporates an 5) Odor Scrubber System for building ventilation. This ventilation system provides a comfortable environment for workers and visitors, and fosters good relations with our neighbors.

NEFCO emphasizes 100% environmental compliance. The utilization of thermal processes means air emissions and sidestream discharges need to be properly treated in accordance with all local, state and federal regulations.
