WHERE NEFCO FITS

Treatment of municipal wastewater (also known as sewage) generally consists of three principal steps:

1.   removing suspended solids via gravity settling

2.   removing dissolved and colloidal solids by a biological growth process and further settling

3.   disinfection

Although there are countless variations, the most common wastewater treatment process is shown above. The settling steps create sludge. Sludge is still mostly water containing a mix of organic and mineral solids. It also may contain bacteria and therefore is carefully disposed. This is where NEFCO sludge treatment begins, at the end of the wastewater treatment process.
